Our DataStax Enterprise platform, based on the open source Apache Cassandra database, is used by successful innovative companies including Netflix, eBay, WalMart, Spotify, and Nest. As our company continues its global growth we seek an experienced senior attorney to join our exceptional legal team.
We have a decentralized workforce and will consider candidates located anywhere in North America. You may work from home or one of our regional offices, and will be expected to provide timely legal support to teams located in the Central and Eastern time zones. Some occasional travel to our headquarters in Santa Clara, CA will be required.
Essential Job Functions:
The Senior Counsel will join a 5-person legal team, report to the VP, Assistant General Counsel, and have broad responsibilities that include:
- Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a variety of agreements, including customer contracts, vendor contracts, licensing and employee agreements.
- Researching and evaluating risk to provide proactive, practical advice with a view towards advancing business goals.
- Providing front-line support to our Midwest and East Coast Enterprise Sales Managers
- Advising on partnership and business development deals.
- Depending on experience and career goals, assist with North American employment, data privacy and/or marketing matters.
- Collaborating effectively across the organization to drive operational excellence.
- Ad hoc projects as required.
The ideal candidate will:
- Have a strong interest in our data management industry
- Demonstrate exceptional client service skills.
- Thrive in a dynamic, distributed environment by practicing effective time management, prioritization, and communication.
- Display excellent judgment.
- Work independently with a minimum of oversight.
- Balance ambition with humility.
- Enjoy solving complex problems
- Be willing and able to work and coordinate activities across a large number of individuals in various departments.
While we will consider qualified applicants from varied backgrounds, candidates with the following experience will be favorably considered:
- At least 6 years legal experience at a technology company or respected technology law firm handling complex transactions related to technology and software.
- Experience with large-company procurement and compliance standards.
- Subject-matter expertise in privacy, employment, marketing law or other areas in addition to the required transactional skill-set.
- Experience supporting diverse and distributed business teams.
- Experience supporting partnership and business development deals.
JD from an ABA-accredited law school.
